This is a very belated update on the happenings at the Gallery. Despite the strugging economy we have decided to re-lease our space in Belltown and continue here with the hope that things improve in 2010. Our winter hours will be restriced to Saturdays only (11 to 5) or by appointment. We are greatful for the collectors and portrait customers who have supported us through these tough times. I’ve been in the darkroom lately and there are lots of framed and ready to be framed prints in the gallery. We are discounting all of our prices especially on our large mural size prints. This is a perfect time for corporate and institutional buyers to solve their empty wall space problems and add a strong environmental statement to their interiors. Traditional darkroom prints made from big camera film have a look and feel and wall presence like no other photographic imagery. We encourage you to visit the gallery and see for yourself.

Since the last update I have done some field shooting and made some nice negatives. I’ve been in the North Cascades National Park for some trips during the summer. I packed my 8×10 camera up, not so easy, Easy Pass in August, only to be greated by driving snow and wind. I was in central interior Alaska and on the coast at Valdez this summer also only to have poor visibility from smoke from huge tundra fires. I finally got some great weather in the fall on a trip to the Idaho panhandle, in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness area. I’ve also been continuing with some studio figurative work with some really talented models.

In June, we showed prints for a month in downtown Spokane at the Brick Wall Gallery. It’s a beautiful space! We have also continued our philantropy/non-profit work by supporting the Coastal Conservation Association in the spring and the Washington Wilderness Coalition at their fall auction. We encourage you to visit their web sites and learn about their efforts for environmental conservation.

The Gallery has managed to survive the difficulties of the poor economy and we are looking forward to better times and a productive summer. We have had to scale back, however, on all of our activities but I have been able to do alot of darkroom printing over the winter with stockpiled materials. We greatly appreciate our gallery customers, especially the people who have chosen to add our prints to their art collections over the winter. You have kept us going!

I have done some location shooting since our last update. In the fall, I made some winemaker portraits and vinyard images in Walla Walla for our friends at Red Sky Winery. After the shoot, I traveled to the Eagle Cap Wilderness Area in Eastern Oregon to shoot in the valley of the Lostine River. Look for some black and white Lostine River images in the New Work section of the web site. I also did some figurative work in an architectural setting in the gun battery ruins of Fort Flagler on Marrowstone Island.

The Gallery continues to support organizations that are involved in environmental conservation. In the fall, we supported the Washington Wilderness Coalition with their annual auction. Recently, we supported the auction of the Coastal Conservation Association.

Please visit the Gallery over the summer. We will be hanging new work on a monthly basis and many of the images from the website are displayed on a regular basis.

It’s gorgeous here in Seattle, a great time to take a walk downtown and visit us here at Steven Fey Photography. We recently went trekking through the Mountain Loop Highway on the first day it was opened after all the severe flooding. We explored the North Fork Falls in the Sauk River. It was beautiful! We discovered many very full streams and waterfalls. For one shot, we got our gear unpacked, fiddled with the tripod in the mud, swat some hungry mosquitos, got big bertha all set up for a great shot of river, rocks, trees, afternoon light, and then…the wind came. Ah, the wind. So, we waited. We haven’t developed them yet, but we will soon. Keep an eye out, as we will post them on the website soon. I think we got some great shots.

Steven has been spending a good amount of time developing Ilfochrome prints. We’ll be framing some of these and hanging them in the gallery soon.

On July 10th, Steven joined the Wilderness Society at the Olympic Sculpture Park to celebrate the beautiful North Cascades. Check it out when you are in town.

Seattle is beautiful right now, and it’s a great time to get your portrait taken. It’s a wonderful experience. Steven Fey will photograph you and your family in a setting of your choice in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. It will be a treasure to last a lifetime. Call the gallery and set up your appointment right away.

We’ve been celebrating at Steven Fey Photography! Steven went up to Index to help celebrate with the Washington Wilderness Coalition, senator Patty Murray, and many others in honor of the newly protected Wild Sky Wilderness area. Then we had two parties here in our Seattle gallery. The first was with the Sierra Club for new members, members new to the area and new volunteers. A great time was had by all! The partying continued with a smaller group of special people involved with the WWC, including Tom Uniack, Mike Town and a host of other friends. Please keep Steven Fey Photography gallery in mind for your event planning, as well as your photography needs. We are in a great location right near the Space Needle. It’s a great time to visit Seattle–the sun is shining and there is a light breeze and the mountains are out! See you soon.

This will be the first new wilderness area in more than two decades. Come into the gallery and see all of our beautiful photographs of this region and more.

The gallery has continued its support of environmental organizations this month. We have started working with the Sierra Club to help them support their donors in their Washington Legacy council. In March, the Sierra Club and the gallery hosted a reception for the Legacy Council members. Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels attended and spoke about climate change and the movement within city government to reduce carbon emissions and conserve energy resources. We thank the Sierra Club and the Mayor for helping to make for such an enjoyable and stimulating evening at the gallery.

We thank the Wilderness Society for including the image on their press release and look forward to the final passage of this bill which will perserve the Wild Sky Wilderness area in the North Cascades.

This is our second American Psychologist cover. We thank Sandy Fowler and the APA editorial staff for helping to make these covers a reality.

Finally this month, there has been a change or personnel at the gallery. Brie Everard will be leaving the gallery director position but will be staying on as our Digital Imaging Specialist.
