Portraits

Types of Portraits

Steven Fey specializes in environmental portraiture, in which he depicts his subject in a setting (indoor or outdoor) that is personal and meaningful. Studio portraiture is also available.

Process

Fey’s portraits are a collaboration between artist and subject. Before the shoot, Fey spends time getting to know the subject and working with him or her to choose a location. Before the session, Fey visits the location to make sure that the day of the shoot is maximally productive.

Often, Fey depicts his subjects in their creative spaces, at work or play. For a subject who was passionate about fly-fishing, Fey chose to photograph him casting at sunrise in a river in Northern Idaho.

The End Result: A Work of Art

The result of this process is an archival, artist-made and signed print. The use of large format cameras ensures a beautiful image, rich with detail. Because Steven Fey works exclusively in film photography, there will always be a permanent record of your session.
